About the Game
Teaching Interprofessional Education (IPE) one hand at a time.
Teach IPE content interactively with the Collaborate Card Game, a plug-and-play solution aligned with AACN requirements.

Be introduced to health care roles
Players are introduced to 11 professions: Registered Nurse, Dietitian, Primary Care Provider, Audiologist, Exercise Physiologist, Pharmacist, Health Educator, Physical Therapist, Dental Hygienist, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Social Worker.

Explore scenarios and recommend care teams
Next, players are given unique patient scenarios and are asked to select three health care professionals to collaborate on the patient’s care based on the specific needs presented.

Reveal answers and debrief
For example, in a scenario where an unhoused veteran experiences dizziness upon standing, students might recommend an audiologist to address potential inner ear issues, a registered nurse for general care, and a social worker to assist with the patient's unhoused status.

Earn points for correct answers
By making these decisions, students gain points for correct answers and, more importantly, learn to recognize the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork in providing holistic, patient-centered care.

The Collaborate card game was designed with one goal in mind: to teach students how health care professionals can collaborate to help patients.

To test its effectiveness, we conducted a study. Results showed that students who played the game had significantly improved understanding of these concepts.

Our Story
To meet AACN compliance standards, Dr. Valerie Wright a nursing faculty member at Illinois State University, was tasked with teaching Interprofessional Education (IPE) concepts to her nursing students. While designing a traditional lecture was an option, she knew it would lack the engaging, interactive elements needed to truly capture her students' attention.
Inspired by research showing the powerful impact of gamified learning, Valerie partnered with Ashley Bollhorst, experienced in design and user experience, to create a card game that would make learning IPE both enjoyable and effective.
